My thoughts exactly and I just can't think about it because the idea of having the life I lived through back then as a result of the JW's, dismissed as if it never happened, is just too much to bear.

1925 versus 1975
by Sour Grapes inin the early 1970's i was an elder who was convinced by the other elders in the congregation that armageddon was coming by the end of 1975. at that time, as an elder, i knew that in the early 1920's the witnesses thought that in 1925 christendom would be destroyed and the faithful men of old, abraham, isaac, noah, etc., would be resurrected to earth.
i knew those were failed prophecies yet it did not bother me.
as i ponder why it didn't shake my faith, i must have given the borg a pass since it was so long ago or maybe because the light is getting brighter.. i am afraid that the same thing is going to happen with the 1975 video at the assemblies.

Hi Phoebe,
It's no fun having difficulty with anxiety and I'm sure there's part of you that believes it will never go away. Let me tell you that if I can overcome the anxiety difficulties I had, then anyone can.
Once a person has been anxious for a time, there are automatic thoughts that need to be unlearned and brain circuits that need to be re-routed. There are many cognitive therapy strategies out there that can be learned but typically an anxious person views them as too simplistic or mild to take care of their problem (I sure did) but it works if you keep at it.
In the meantime, it may help you to remember that millions of people down through the last hundred years, have been victims of the JW end times predictions. (note the dates in the photos below) It was all very real to them, just as it was to us. Many, like you and me, were affected badly by the worrisome forecast for the future that was thrust upon us by people we had come to trust. Take comfort in knowing that these predictions were made by people who knew how to play on basic human fears to get what they wanted. It's the oldest trick in the book and their victims (current JW's who are damaged themselves), are (as we once did) unwittingly perpetrating the damage that was started by those early JW Charlatans and snake oil salesman.
The good news is, you are in control of what you think about and your fears are only as real as you let them be. Don't allow them to rob you of your peace of mind. If there is a God, he surely knows what you are going through and if there is to be a life after this one, there's no reason you shouldn't be a part of it as well !

silly observations from that '1975' video...
by undercover inokay, so everyone is bent out of shape about how the wts is re-writing their history on their past failed predictions (1975).
other threads deal in all the evidence to tear apart their shameless propaganda, so i won't dwell on that here.. but, what i will do is list a couple of observations, silly as they are, that aren't about the propaganda so much as it is about the set design, and costume design.
feel free to add to the list.. early scene where the wife is dying.

I too noticed the "time" discrepancies you noticed. They even employed a sepia tone effect to make it seem as if they were talking about a less modern time than the 1960-1970's.
I noticed too that the man playing the widowed grandfather wouldn't have been old enough to have been a young married father in the time period they were depicting.
I had to laugh when after the grandfather spoke about having to resist going overboard about the end times trend, the grandson said something to the effect " Oh Grandpa, I had no idea you had to had to endure so much"
These videos are so full of (not-so)subliminal messages. anyone with half a brain can spot them. I imagine there'll be a lot of younger ones rolling their eyes so far back in their heads, they'll be able to see their own brains (and hopefully remember to use them)

Im "Going To Die In Armageddon"

i didnt answer because he's actively shunning me and when he does ring it always to preach to me about how we're so close to the end and how i should "humble myself before the mighty hand of god" .
he then texts me saying "we need to talk".

Even for Jehovah's Witnesses, this behavior is over the top. You are clearly dealing with imbalanced individuals and there's no use trying to use normal logic when trying to figure out their motives. Best to steer clear of them when possible and resist the temptation to engage with them over anything JW related.
Perhaps a text messages saying " I love you Brother and Sister, thanks for your concern but please don't contact me unless there is a family emergency or a family related issue I need to know about".

Why would they bring this up?
You'd think they'd want this to vanish into the past but perhaps ( hopefully) there's been a recent up-tic in the amount of backlash they've been getting from younger ones who have grown up as JW and who've just now learned about the 1975 fiasco.

They told us not to "serve with a date in mind" yet they kept providing us with supposedly significant dates from which to make a countdown from and to prove that Armageddon was right around the corner. Now it's our own fault that we took them at their word.

Can't say for sure what the personal financial status of Jackson is but if he isn't wealthy or if he is and doesn't want to spend that kind of money on a watch, he might be so inclined as to buy a fake. The thing is, it could be considered a "showy display of ones means of life" by those who think it's real. They used to be big on not wanting to "stumble" anyone over our choices in dress and grooming.

2 Peter 3:9nJehovah is not slow in respect to his promise, as some people consider slowness. But, he is being patient with you because he does not desire for anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to attain repentance .
The belief (and false rationalization) that the end of the system of things hasn't arrived yet because Jehovah wants everyone to repent first. The trouble is, the longer he waits, the more new people are born into sin with the potential of not repenting, yet they continue to proclaim, decade upon decade, that we are living in the end of "this system".

I suppose it could be a knock-off. They've been available for some time time now. And I'd imagine this to be specially so in NY City where street vendors sell all sorts of knock-off versions of name brand products.

BBC Programme Re. Contaminated Blood - Dub Blinkers

an experienced j w of my acquaintance , who had best be nameless, urged me to watch this t v programme because it "proves the society were right all along in warning of the dangers of blood.. well, yes , it does in a way demonstrate that the potential dangers of blood products was not fully recognized.
in particular this is shown in respect of the aids/hiv virus which was a new threat when it occurred.. there were some important points deliberately ignored by my dub associate , though :.

It's one thing to choose for yourself to avoid using blood because there are health risks associated with it but it's another thing to used connect the dot scriptures to prove that using blood to save a life isn't allowable because it's against god's law and malign anyone who takes a transfusion.
There are risks in taking antibiotics and and certain other medications and simply checking into the hospital is a health risk in itself but when a person needs those things badly enough, the odds are usually worth the risk.
Just because there are health risks in using blood, doesn't mean the Watchtower Society was right about anything. Their stance was a biblical one rather than a health matter. Blood was abstained from because it was "sacred" not dangerous. Their religious stance just so happened to have an additional health related concern that worked in their favor.
